Materials Needed
-A balloon
-A plastic straw
-Tape
-A small toy car (or create your own using a bottle or a piece of cardboard)
-Scissors
Instructions
- Tape the straw to the car, making sure the opening of the straw is facing backward.
- Inflate the balloon and pinch the opening to hold the air in.
- Tape the balloon to the top of the car, making sure the balloon opening is connected to the straw.
-
Release the balloon’s opening and watch the car zoom forward!
Explanation: When the air in the balloon is released through the straw, it pushes the car forward. This demonstrates Newton's third law of motion: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
