Materials Needed

-A balloon
-A plastic straw
-Tape
-A small toy car (or create your own using a bottle or a piece of cardboard)
-Scissors

Instructions

  1. Tape the straw to the car, making sure the opening of the straw is facing backward.
  2. Inflate the balloon and pinch the opening to hold the air in.
  3. Tape the balloon to the top of the car, making sure the balloon opening is connected to the straw.
  4. Release the balloon’s opening and watch the car zoom forward!

Explanation: When the air in the balloon is released through the straw, it pushes the car forward. This demonstrates Newton's third law of motion: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
