Estimated time: 30 minutes to 1 hour

• Boiling water

• Borax

• Pipe cleaners

• Popsicle sticks or pencils

• Jars

• String

Instructions

1. Make a fun shape out of a pipe cleaner. Make one shape per jar and make sure the shape fits through the mouth of the jar. 

2. Tie a string through the shape to make an “ornament”. 

3. Make the borax solution by mixing ½ a cup of borax with 2 cups of boiling water, making sure the borax completely dissolves in the water. If the water cools and the borax is having a hard time dissolving, microwave the mixture for 1 minute and then stir again until the borax is dissolved. 

4. Slip a popsicle into the string part of the “ornament” and use the popsicle horizontally, across the top of a jar to suspend the ornament in the jar. 

5. Pour the borax solution into the jar, making sure to cover the pipe cleaner completely. 

6. Let this sit for several hours before removing the pipe cleaner and revealing your crystals.
